I know firsthand how difficult life can be when sleep doesn’t come naturally.

My story

Early perimenopause, initially overlooked by professionals, sparked my insomnia, which continued from my late 30s into my early 40s. Like many struggling with insomnia, I  tried almost everything—from the medical approach of sleeping pills to the holistic spectrum of hypnosis, and everything in between, including an overflowing cupboard of expensive supplements. While some of these offered a band-aid solution that worked for a time, nothing brought back long term, dependable sleep patterns. With young children and a busy working life, it was a struggle to get through each day.

Eventually, I discovered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I), which was the most powerful tool in resetting my deeply ingrained sleep patterns. While I still faced hormonal challenges that later necessitated a hysterectomy, CBT-I acted as the elevator that took me out of the depths of my insomnia. It also helped me cope with hormonal challenges by facilitating improvements in my sleep. I have continued to implement the principles of CBT-I to further enhance my sleep quality and maintain healthy sleep to this day. Insomnia felt insurmountable until I found CBT-I, which inspired me to study and learn extensively about it, driven by the hope of helping others navigate these challenges.

With a lifelong interest in health and wellness, supported by a degree in Health Science, a background in nursing, and a diploma in Yoga, I delved deeper into CBT-I, pursuing multiple trainings with leading experts in behavioural sleep medicine to understand its processes and scientific foundations, while undertaking a Health Coaching course. It was through this journey that Intuitive Sleep was born.

Sleep is often considered one of the pillars of health, but I see it as the foundation on which these pillars rest. By nurturing healthy sleep habits and improving sleep, the other aspects of well-being will fall into place.

I struggled with sleep for several years before having a conversation with Kate. Having experienced her own challenges, Kate is empathetic and non-judgmental, while also solution oriented. Kate was able to explain some concepts and strategies in a way that was easy to understand and utilise and which helped me to improve my sleep. I am very thankful and would recommend her to anyone struggling to get the rest they need.
